Introspection Through Narrative Pedagogy Essay

Introduction

Nursing, like any other field, requires regular introspection informed by theoretical frameworks and academic tenets. The nursing meta-paradigm provides a comprehensive framework for the profession. To paraphrase an expert, "the person, their environment, their health, and the practice of nursing itself" are all taken into account by this theoretical framework (What is the metaparadigm of nursing?, n.d., para. 2). In addition to providing insight into the current state of nursing, the meta-paradigm can be used as a lens through which the practitioner's own methods, tenets, and worldviews can be evaluated. In this paper, we'll discuss the case study patient's experience and evaluate it using the nursing paradigm.

Discussion

Every nurse needs to hear about just one example of excellent care that they can use as inspiration and reassurance. A construction worker needed medical attention around 16 months ago after seriously injuring one of his limbs on the job. From what people were saying, it was evident that the horrific event was caused by a failure to communicate and a brief disregard for safety. It was a particularly complicated right arm fracture. Until the arm had fully healed, the patient's ability to use his little and ring fingers was in doubt. The future of their use was dependent on the patient's physical condition, mental fortitude, and the quality of care they received, as stated by the therapist and orthopedic surgeon. However, the man's mood immediately deteriorated since he felt helpless in the hospital with his dominant arm out of commission. Treating all patients with the same amount of mental energy is essential to a professional, holistic mindset (Nikfarid et al., 2018). From a place of empathy and compassion, it was clear that this patient required special words of consolation and encouragement.

Both sides of the argument were convincing, leading to serious introspection. Since the nurse's emotional reserves can be restored, caring for this patient more intensively was determined to be appropriate. Therefore, the injured construction worker's "social and emotional needs" have been elevated to the status of first priority (What is the metaparadigm of nursing? n.d., para. 2). Despite the fact that making a decision based on one's own morals is unethical in nursing, more time and energy were spent trying to improve the injured person's state of mind. Involving the man's loved ones in the process of reviving his upbeat outlook was made possible through enlightening conversation with his family. The builder was able to not only recover complete motor function in his fractured arm but also keep a positive attitude for the majority of his time in the hospital. In retrospect, it was via the other two, environment and nursing, that the health and personhood of the wounded man could be attended to.

Conclusion

This piece recounts a medical emergency that the author experienced firsthand. The protagonist is a construction worker who, after breaking his arm, required both medical treatment and intensive psychological counseling to help him cope with the stresses of his illness and hospitalization. All parts of the nursing metaparadigm were utilized to provide the required care, with individual values being prioritized over institutional norms. The construction worker case was selected for debate and analysis because it presents a conflict between professional philosophy and personal views, and because the proposed remedy is at odds with some principles of nursing ethics.
