A Nitrogen Gas Accident at a Nursing Home Essay
Nursing facilities have an ethical responsibility to ensure their residents' security and consistency. In order to put this idea into practice, employees must have a thorough understanding of their jobs, processes, and responsibilities. Human mistake and failure to adhere to these standards can have catastrophic results that need to be carefully evaluated to prevent a recurrence. at this study, we will examine the tragedy that occurred at a Bellbrook, Ohio, nursing facility.
Nurses at the facility and their partners who provided the incorrect goods appear to be equally to blame for the deaths of patients. In both incidents, a potentially lethal chemical was used in place of oxygen due to a lack of care for detail that may have been the result of inadequate control systems (Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 2000). It's possible that the overwhelming amount of work was a contributing factor. The nursing home staff can't help but provide subpar work under these circumstances. The supplier of gas tanks failed to verify the accuracy of the product labels and keep accurate records of the various varieties it sold. The nursing home staff missed this mistake since they didn't check the gas before connecting the tanks. One of the many contributing causes to these incidents is a breakdown in communication, which is typically layered on top of problems with competence (Andersson et al., 2018). Individuals must take responsibility for their activities and make concerted efforts to improve their knowledge in order to produce better results; decisions must be evaluated and supported by colleagues and superiors; and employees' core beliefs must be consistent with those of their customers.
In conclusion, if all parties involved had been more careful, the accident that claimed the lives of four locals could have been avoided. Organizations can reduce the likelihood of repeat incidents by cultivating a culture that places a premium on the values of the company, encourages individual and collective responsibility, and is led by an effective manager. A serious mistake was made by the nursing home when it settled into a routine that did not uphold the necessary safety requirements.
